The Savvas Chamberlain Family Foundation (SCFF) was established in 2011 by Dr. Savvas Chamberlain with the purpose of receiving and maintaining funds and then applying all or part of the income annually to charitable Canadian organizations which are also registered charities under the Income Tax Act (Canada). The foundation provides funding to a broad range of registered local, provincial and national charitable organizations annually on a case by case basis at the discretion of the foundation.
The foundation is established for the long term. The intention of Dr. Chamberlain is that it be built on a solid financial base as well as have well-developed governance policies and procedures such that it can have a lasting impact and fulfill his vision. We do not solicit or accept donations externally; we are funded entirely by the Chamberlain Family. Operational and overhead expenses are closely monitored so that they are kept to a minimum and cover only essential tasks.
The foundation operates from its head office at the offices of EXEL Research Inc. in Waterloo, Ontario. This is where our staff perform due diligence on requests for funding and where our board members meet to discuss the SCFF's finances as well as past and future funding candidates to ensure we are fulfilling its vision. The foundation's Board of Directors consists of both Chamberlain family members and external, arm's length Official Observers. The Board meets annually and more frequently as is needed to decide on the allocation and distribution of funds.
